For over 20 years, ESIP meetings have brought together the most innovative thinkers and leaders around Earth science data, thus forming a community dedicated to making Earth science data more discoverable, accessible and useful to researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and the public. The theme of this year’s meeting is "Data for All People: From Generation to Use and Understanding."

  • A goal for the community is to support space data and space-related activities via R&D in knowledge-based, knowledge representation & AI approaches, and the humanities.
  • A personal goal to realize that community goal is to find sustainable formal support/opportunities & mentorship for my space knowledge modeling project (https://ontospace.wordpress.com or https://purl.org/space-ontology).
  • I also actively seek opportunities in water search & rescue, for which I also develop project concepts and serve in committees. Maritime rescue resume available on request.
I seek to continue my education through these activities, innovate and pursue these and other topics for the benefit of various disciplines. I've held roles as ontologist, consultant, and conceptual data modeler, with grant-writing experience.

  • I serve in ESIP Collaboration Areas since 2019. And--more broadly--in semantic technology, ontology, maritime, spaceflight, and standards communities, where collectively over the last few years I've given extensive community service. This includes work in committees within national and international orgs. NOTE: I've been serving out-of-pocket while searching for work, mentorship and education in order to create a stable career-start and career path in these disciplines of interest, as well as in the hopes of finding employer-support, funding, or university/phd support for my project https://purl.org/space-ontology. Opportunities & support is still not forthcoming, so in the interim, I'm available for contract hire https://tinyurl.com/yas7trzy

  • Areas of interest: knowledge representation & reasoning, conceptual/semantic modeling, ontology for space (astronomy (including space science), astronautics, misc.), ethics of AI and data, philosophy, terminology, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), boat operations, water safety & rescue.
