Salem, Massachusetts, USA
Cora Van Hazinga GIS graduate student at Salem State University. Her background is in Geology (Salem State University) and Computer Science (Bunker Hill Community College). Cora is passionate about furthering our understanding of geological processes using GIS and data science tools. Her research uses remote sensing techniques and GIS to identify the mechanics of tectonic and magmatic strain accommodation in the Turkana Basin of the East African Rift, a dynamic and little understood area. The spatial analysis of extrusive volcanic features provides data regarding the regional tensile stress and possible lithospheric structures. She hopes to apply her research and techniques to tectonic settings outside the East African Rift.
